BREAK YOUR HEART [REVIEW]

Ladies and gentlemen, Kryzjhynn (@kryzjhynn) has hit the scene with her debut single Break Your Heart, and r.i.p to whoever broke this kid’s heart. Despite only being the ripe age of 19, Kryzjhynn has already displayed masterful musicianship and cheeky lyricism with this groovy diss track, almost fooling the audience into thinking she’s lived and loved like someone twice her age.

It’s rare nowadays, in the Western Sydney music scene, for artists to allow their instruments to speak as much as their actual voice, but Kryz has skillfully blended genres, with influences of funk, jazz, pop, r&b and soul smoothly weaved together for 3 minutes and 42 seconds of stylistically ambiguous yet genuinely interesting music. From the first couple of phrases you’re drawn in by a fun electric guitar moment, then you’re kept on your toes with little licks, brass fillers and harmonies strategically placed here and there while her clean tone and clear dictation provide the stability to get the song’s point across.

I won’t say she’s peaked or there’s no topping this, because it’s literally only her debut single and I’m keen to see what comes next. I’d love to hear Kryz explore a bit more of her vocal range in future projects because some of those lower notes felt a little safe. I will say though, she’s well and truly on her way to her Jazmine Sullivan Bust Your Windows moment. Overall, it’s been a solid start to what I’m sure will be a fun ride of a career. Props as well goes to the producer with some of the most balanced mixing I’ve personally heard in a hot minute.

Break Your Heart is out now, so give it a listen here and get ready to groove to the sound of your ex’s impending heartbreak. Make sure to keep up with Kryzjhynn because she’s one to watch.
