Western Sydney based electro-soul singer-songwriter, producer and multi instrumentalist Clarissa Mei has released her new single ‘Swipe Right’, the track explores the artist's journey navigating through dating apps during isolation. During the lockdown we experienced an intense level of loneliness and the challenge of connecting with others. Clarissa opens up about her experience, the apps helped her find connection with others “Being on dating apps during isolation was a great way to connect with people. Being at home got so lonely, being able to chat with so many different people whether it was for fun or to search for love was exciting” stated Clarissa.

‘Swipe Right’ is her first release since the Covid pandemic hit. The track has been described as buoyant, synth-pop infused, combined with her amazing production and her powerful vocals. There is much depth in Clarissa’s tracks, her voice takes us further into her vulnerabilities and lived experiences. Her work is inspired by self-produced artists such as Milan Ring and Vetta Borne.

“I see reflections of myself in both Ring and Borne, and they inspire me to push my boundaries and expand into my own realms as a producer. The message these women instill in me is; I don’t have to make music like everyone else, I can do it my way and I can do it myself” Says Clarissa.

CONSCIOUS Program artists: L-Fresh the Lion, Clarissa Mei, Givitimy, P.Smid and Saif (Image Credit: @jadedamico)

The track was created through Campbelltown Arts Center’s Conscious program led by L-Fresh the Lion. The program exposes artists to multiple career pathways and aims to build a community that will pass on knowledge and experience to strengthen the hip-hop community and also provide support to the individual mentees in reaching their goals. “We’ve been working closely with each artist around creating and releasing a new single. We recognise the challenges of being an artist during a global pandemic and with that front of mind, Conscious provides individually tailored professional career development and will continue to get behind some of the finest emerging talent that Western Sydney has to offer” states L-Fresh.

Throughout the program Clarissa was mentored by L-Fresh the Lion, Clarissa adds “I had such a great time pushing myself out of my comfort zone in this project with the Conscious team. ‘Swipe Right’ has unlocked so many creative doors in my mind and I’m looking forward to continuing to develop my production style. I’m thrilled to be building the foundations of and opening up my production studio to other artists, with the focus on fostering an inclusive, socially conscious and safe space to create music”.

It’s been a long awaited return, ‘Swipe Right’ is now out on all streaming platforms.
